Just as a precaution and my most important rule: I will not buy a pin unless the seller posts a picture of the front and the back of the pin so I can verify the Disney trademark and/or serial number. Also, a seller that is selling a large volume of the same pin is also a major red flag and likely fakes.
Lastly, 'Fantasy' pins are fan-created pins and are not authentic. A lot of them look great and kudos to the artists, but many sellers can have misleading descriptions to sell them through the appearance of authenticity. If you are paying $1 or less a pin, they're fake. You can tell because they are mystery lots that allow you to buy a large amount of pins. BUT if you are strategic you can get authentic pins on Ebay for about $2.50 per pin. I actually just got a 6 pack for $10.
Mine were a pack of vinylmation pins that originally came with a mystery pin as well. The seller took out the mystery pin then listed the rest of the wrapped pack on ebay. A great deal for me as I will just trade them, and the seller got the mystery pin they wanted. A win all around. Also, cast members are sooo much happier when you trade interesting and authentic pins. Please, pay a bit more and help to revive the old days pin trading culture.
