I've used a radar detector for 16 years, but today, I'm selling my current workhorse (Escort 9500ix), and I'm not replacing it. I don't know how it is where you live/drive, but near me (Midwest USA), all LEOs have instant-on radar and laser guns. Even their vehicles have front/rear mounted radar guns.
They probably have side-mounted too. Instant-on, always aiming where they want.
I got busted up in Wisconsin in Nov. State trooper got me with instant-on radar.
My detector did nothing but alert me that I had been clocked, and to look in my rear view to see the cherries light up. Aside from that, my previous ticket was from laser. And to make it even better, the 9500ix didn't even go off. And I guess the last straw was when it actually happened again a few weeks ago (thankfully I got a warning that time. But again, the 9500ix didn't even go off.
It'll detect radar apparently, but its laser detection is non-existent (not that it would matter much, anyways.) Anyways, I don't see any point in having this thing anymore. What good is it, aside from muting constant false alarms and realizing that you're already busted?
I know there are new models coming out (Unidan R3, for example). But I don't understand.
Why is there still a market for radar detectors? There are cheaper ways to know you've been busted.
Like looking up into your rear view mirror.
